~Release Day Blitz~ Pathogen by EL Loraine & Tim Frasier

Title: Pathogen
Author: EL Loraine & Timothy Frasier
Genre: Dystopian
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

Blurb for Pathogen:

What if the government doesn’t want a cure? An E.L. Loraine and Tim Frasier release.
A blinding light in the Southwestern sky changed everything. Nothing worked anymore and all Alexis could do was hope that her boyfriend and fellow scientist Jackson would still head to New Orleans for their week end together.
She couldn’t help thinking the worldwide pockets of viral outbreaks and this were somehow connected. If she and Jackson combined their efforts just maybe they could stop this before it became an epidemic.
Now she was stuck on the road alone and it wasn’t long before she realized it was too late; they couldn’t out run a virus. If the world was over run all they could do now all they could do was to figure out how to survive and keep the uninfected from becoming, mindless, flesh eating monsters. Now there’s something else, a mutation a strain of virus the government doesn’t want to cure and they want Alexis and Jackson to help them harness it. They aren’t about to let that happen.
The world and character building of best-selling author E.L. Loraine with the specialty horror telling skills of Tim Frasier has combined in this dystopian – Pathogen. It’s chilling in an all too believable way.
At the end I’m going to reveal the cover and blurb of book two of Pathogen – Mutations.

Excerpt One:

While Jackson’s exterior was the definition of calm and control, he was screaming inside. He had to get Alexis out of New Orleans. He approached the compound commander, Major Johnston, and made a calculated plea.
“I need to get to New Orleans. One of the world’s top pathologists is there, and would be invaluable in fighting whatever we’re up against.”

Excerpt Two:

Alexis frowned, gun at the ready, and continued up the stairs, alleviating further squeaking by positioning her feet on the extreme sides of the treads.
She stopped at the landing and stood there holding her breath, listening, trying to decide what to do. Moving to the door to her right, sure the whimpering sound was coming from that room, she slowly reached out to the knob.
In one movement she twisted the knob, and shoved the door hard. The door swung to her right, banging on the wall behind it. Lexy moved through the opening and into the interior of the room with her gun close to her body, rotating first to the left and then to the right.
Nothing.
She moved further inside, aiming the pistol back and forth, as she looked through the room.

She gulped and took herself in hand, preparing inwardly for the next move.

Gary Caruso lives in northern Virginia with his wife Jill, but their favorite place is in Ohio with their three beautiful grandchildren. Although Gary is exhilarated when he sits down to write, teaching middle school science is his first love. He’s passionate about empowering students to make thoughtful decisions and positive choices in life. Gary enjoys reading, especially fiction that blurs the line between what’s real and what’s fantasy. He never imagined becoming a writer until an ordinary car ride on a spring day jolted an unlikely thought into his head. Gary’s early experience writing is a reminder that no matter how intimidating the challenge, action and determination are the foundations for fulfilling any dream. Gary has an insatiable love for writing, a blessing he’s excited to share with his readers.

How much agony can a man endure before he surrenders every precious thought of the woman he holds most dear? I’ve lost count of the successive days of torture. Time after time, long, flat strips of glowing hot iron are pressed onto my exposed arms and legs. They sear away the flesh, layer by layer, almost to the bone, and the pungent smell of charring meat and the crackling of curling skin dominate my senses. I struggle to keep a lucid image of Annemarie’s beautiful smile in mind and remember the gentle touch of her soft fingertips as they glide across the coarse skin of my cheek. It’s the only string of goodness that remains from my vanishing humanity, but the torment of every exposed nerve scratches at my soul, seeking to push me beyond the edges of insanity.

Like a vise clamped on a piece of wood, my teeth clench into my lower lip until they eventually pierce through. I’m repulsed by the sour, metallic taste of my demon blood, but the pain refocuses my determination and keeps me from begging for mercy. The pain will stop if I surrender what remains of my broken humanity. As another bolt of pain tears at my body, I tighten my jaw again. I can’t crumble on Bethany’s table. I refuse to give her the pleasure.

Chapter 1
Missing You

The small fire crackled and popped. A light breeze sent embers swirling up into the air, each disappearing suddenly as their little sparks died.
Exhaustion made Arowyn’s eyelids heavy, but her mind whirled with too many thoughts for sleep to come.
They'd finally returned Prince to Rivenward, and just in time. The final leg of their journey began the previous night as the sun set. They’d reached the gates before noon and sent him off before heading back to the forest. Being awake for a full day didn’t help with her mood.
She closed her eyes and tugged her cloak tighter around herself. The fact Prince was gone didn’t want to settle in her mind. Part of her couldn’t believe it. The rest just wanted to cry. She missed him. His absence made everything feel…wrong. Another of her boys gone. At least he wasn’t dead…and he’d promised he’d see her again one day.
One day.
He couldn’t have been any more vague, and she ground her teeth in frustration.
Men.
"Aro, you need to get some sleep."
Her gaze flicked over to Bo, resting on his side by the fire. "I know. I will soon."
Firelight reflected in his brown eyes as he watched her worriedly for a moment before letting out a loud sigh. Large fingers rubbed at the scar on his cheek. "I miss him, too."
With a small smile, she nodded and ducked her head, not wanting him to see her struggle not to cry. She’d promised herself no more tears. So far, she’d somehow managed and hoped to keep it that way. Her life had been too full of tears.
Kei walked into the light, having returned from checking on the horses. She smiled when he sat down gracefully next to her.
"You look tired," he said quietly.
"I am. I was waiting for you."
He grinned but shook his head. The firelight danced across his golden skin and brought out the gold in his spikey, light brown hair. His golden eyes caught hers, searching them to see how she was doing. Her eyes matched his now, thanks to Fey magic. "Are you…"
"I’m doing fine," she insisted. "Don’t worry about me."
Shrugging a shoulder, he looked away, but his lips curved up in a wry smile. "I always do."
She rubbed her tired eyes. It wasn’t very late, but she needed sleep. They'd borrowed an extra horse from the Were and would leave early in the morning to return it. She needed to be awake and on her guard. The alpha, Rhee-En, had taken an interest in her, not romantically, but still an interest. Alphas wanted strong packs, and though she was human, she could mind-speak, take the fury from Fey, and now even heal herself with borrowed Fey power. More importantly, she hadn’t been afraid of them, or of the Dragos, Damon. The Were appreciated such strength. Or thought her insane enough to be of use to them.
Kei patted the ground beside him. "Come. Try to sleep."
She settled down next to him, rolling onto her side to face him as he did the same. As always, he took her hands in his to hold between them.
"Have good dreams tonight," he whispered.
A deep sigh escaped her. "I’ll try."
He frowned, his eyes searching hers. "Why so sad? He’s home safe now. He’ll be better soon."
"I know," she mumbled. Elves were bound to their land and its magic. Being gone so long from Rivenward almost killed Prince. Her thoughts turned back to their parting. "He kissed me."
Kei grinned. "We saw." His brows drew together at her solemn face. "That’s what you wanted, wasn’t it?"
Her cheeks flushed remembering the kiss. A passionate, frantic kiss that stole her breath away. "I don’t know what I wanted," she admitted. "I love him. I wanted him to love me, too. But…I know it can’t work, not with him being a prince, and an Elf, and immortal." Sighing again, her chest tightened. "It’s not fair to him, to love me but have to watch me die. I wouldn’t do it to you. I shouldn’t expect it of him either."
Kei watched her quietly for a while. "Love is love, Aro. Sometimes it’s all that matters."

"He never said he loved me."

Last summer, Anna's world got turned upside-down. It's hard to believe her travels to different worlds and fantastic yet dangerous adventures really took place. Little things, like the twinge of pain from her healing ribs, and a few relics, remind her that her journeys did actually occur. David, a ghost she met on her travels, suddenly reappears, bringing both old friends and foes back into her life. To help Sabaska, Anna must attempt to rescue captured Travelers from a Vanir stronghold, and still get home in time for school. An easy task compared to dealing with her mixed feelings for Cahir.
Uncovering a Vanir plot to find a powerful lost mage will test her strength and dedication to the Travelers. With the help of new and old friends, they set out in search of the mage. He could tip the balance of the war in either side’s favor and it’s up to Sabaska and Anna to get there first.

"You have the most boring life," a faint voice said in Anna's ear.
Straightening from her hunched position over her math test, Anna looked wildly around, her heart racing.
"Right here," the voice said again.
Turning, she shrieked as a gray man solidified next to her in the aisle. Her pencil snapped in her hand. She picked up one of the broken ends and held it like a weapon.
"Now, is that anyway to treat an old friend?"
Anna stared at the gray man a little longer, took in the tight pants, belt full of pouches, and cloak. She sighed. Being able to see through him should have been her first clue.
"Anna, is there a problem?" Her math teacher, Mr. Frank, sounded annoyed.
Anna looked around. The entire class stared at her. "Uh." She glanced at David, the apparition, and then back at the class.
"Well, they can't see me right now, of course." He sounded smug. "Would you like them to?"
"No," she muttered, answering both her teacher and the ill-timed specter. "No. I'm sorry, Mr. Frank. I just thought I saw something, like a ghost, and it scared me. I've been reading some scary stories recently and I guess they got to me." It sounded lame, even to her, especially in the middle of a midterm math test.
"Very well, Anna. Please keep your hauntings to yourself in the future."
Several people in the class snickered. Karen, her best friend, shot her a concerned look before going back to her test. Anna shut her eyes for a minute, wondering what the gossips would say about the incident. "We can talk later," she muttered at the ghost.
"Of course, Anna." His cultured voice sounded amused and apologetic.
She shook her head, not really angry with David. He had saved her and Sabaska's life over the summer and she could survive a few days of ridicule so he could have some amusement. And he was right; her life was boring. Especially after last summer. She pushed those thoughts away, took a deep breath, and forced herself to focus on the test.
